Pre + post care info

Please find your pre and post session advice below.

If you had a massage

  • Avoid heavy meals prior to your treatment as some find it uncomfortable to be massaged when overtly full.

Avoid waxing, threading or other form of hair removal on the area in 7 days prior to treatment.

Take a warm shower, it’s not only good to arrive clean for your massage, but the warmth can aid in relaxing the muscles, a great way to prime yourself before your session.

Eat lightly, you don’t want to feel pangs of hunger during your massage. Try to eat a light snack an hour prior to your session.

Dress comfortably, wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Clothes that are loose and easy to take on and off when undressing and re-dressing for your session are ideal. As we apply oil to the skin, wear something you wouldn’t mind if a touch of oil gets on it.

Give yourself plenty of time to get here, put in your head that your session is 10-15 minutes prior to your booking. This will avoid you feeling stressed or rushed when arriving, making it easier to slip into relaxation. Also, this will give you a moment to use the restroom, enjoy a snack or refreshment that we provide.

Communicate your needs, prior to every treatment we carry out a brief consultation to go over the information you provided and to ask a few further questions. This is a great moment to tell your therapist if you have any specific needs, if you want them to pay special attention to one part of your body or to avoid a specific area. Feel free to let us know what you love or don’t enjoy during a massage. The more you express your needs, the better your therapist can adapt your treatment.

Relax during your massage, during your treatment, concentrate on your breathing, making sure to take long, deep breaths. This will help to reduce stress and chase away negative thoughts. Almost no effort is needed from you. Your therapist will know very well how to lift your arm or your head; your help is not required ☺️

Keep open communication, when the treatment is underway, let your therapist know if anything is too uncomfortable, too hot, too cold; more or less pressure; bright or low lighting; loud or low music … It’s your massage – you decide.

  • DO NOT consume a heavy meal after a massage

DO NOT expose yourself to direct sun light or intense UV light, this may interact with essential oils (if used) causing a photo-toxic reaction (rash-like effect)

DO NOT have another massage or body treatment within the next 24 hours

DO NOT perform any strenuous activity for the next 12-24 hours if possible

DO NOT use any sauna, steam room, hot tub/jacuzzi, or other heat treatment for the rest of the day (if you've had had stones in your session)

DO drink water, massage can cause thirstiness

DO take time to rest post-treatment

DO return for regular treatments to maintain the benefits from your session

DO practice regular stretches - a little before a workout, and more fully once the muscle is warm after a workout. The general recommendation is to hold stretches for 30 seconds

DO stay aware of your posture – correct poor posture whenever possible

DO keep moving 12 hours post-massage, don’t stand or sit in the same position for prolonged periods of time.

DO try to reduce your stress levels as this leads to body tension. This is very important and easy to say but harder to do. Start with trying to be aware of what muscles are engaged (tense) and ask yourself whether they need to be engaged if they are not being used. Then try to let go of some of the tension and relax them. eg drop your shoulders and relax your arms.

DO use ice if experiening soreness post-massage

These are some effects people can experience after a massage, they will typically resolve within hours and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day. Some people may react differently and may experience these reactions for longer.

    -Nausea

    -Altered sleep patterns

    -Increased emotional state

    -Increased energy

-Tenderness or soreness – although this is not the aim, it can be a common experience. This tends to be transient and should resolve within 2-3 days

-Redness/Erythema – localised redness due to increased blood flow and pressure. This usually is transient and should reduce within the few hours post-treatment

-Allergic reaction to massage medium As with the use of any products, there is also a small risk of reaction to the use of products on the skin.

    -Frequent urination

    -Headaches

    -Thirst

    -Sleepiness

    -Fatigue

    -Frequent bowel movements

-Dizziness – can result in getting up too quickly from the massage couch. Take your time when standing up.

    Potential contra-actions:

Effects will typically resolve within hours and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day. Some people may react differently and may experience these reactions for longer. However, these reactions are temporary and typically resolve within 3-4 days as the skin returns to normal.

    Likely

Skin may feel warm with signs of redness, flushing, tightness, itching, tenderness, stinging, swelling. Any redness should subside over 2-36 hours post treatment. Some treatments may cause temporary dryness/skin peeling or flaking for 3-5 days.

    Possible

Temporary headache immediately following the treatment.

    Unlikely

Infection or ulceration: In severe cases infection or ulceration may result, although this is not expected to occur due to the sterility of tools being used as well as the non-invasive nature of this facial.

Bruising: Although this may not normally be normally expected to occur, the procedure may cause bruising, the eye contour being the area at most risk of bruising. Any such bruising is temporary. If you are taking any medication or dietary supplements that can affect platelet function and bleeding time, the severity and period of bruising can be extended, also the presence of petechiae (small red or purple spots beneath the skin) may be observed.

Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation: There is a small risk that hyperpigmentation of the skin can occur after the procedure, although this is not normally expected as the epidermis of the skin is not removed as a result of the procedure. Hypopigmentation is unpredictable, and while risk is low, anyone with a history of hypopigmentation may experience hypopigmentation in the treated areas. Failure to follow pre and post care advice can increase the risk.

Reaction: As with the use of any products, there is also a small risk of reaction to the use of products on the skin If a reaction occurs, discontinue the use of all supplied or purchased products.

If you had a chemical peel

  • Please follow the instructions below to prepare:

Use specific skincare products if requested prior to your session for best results and to reduce the risk of complications. *Especially for deeper complexions.

Avoid prolonged and unprotected sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to treatment

Avoid the use of retinoid products (e.g., retinol, tretinoin, retinaldehyde) and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 7 days prior to treatment.

*Consult with your physician before temporarily discontinuing the use of any prescription medications.

Avoid use of photosensitizing medications (e.g., antibiotics, St John’s wort), You may be treated if your last dose was 7 days ago or more. Consult with your physician before temporarily discontinuing the use of any prescription medications.

Avoid waxing, threading or other form of hair removal on the area in 7 days prior to treatment

Avoid microdermabrasion, skin peels, micro-needling, laser or IPL 4 weeks prior to treatment

Avoid Facial fillers atleast 2 weeks prior to your facial and 4 weeks for Botox.

  • Due to the nature of these treatments, you should not necessarily “peel”, however, you may have light to moderate flaking in a few localised areas for 3-7 days.

You may experience residual redness, which lasts in most patients from 1-12 hours.

It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of the treatment.

It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilise and rest overnight. However, makeup can be applied, if necessary.

Tonight, your skin will feel tight and “pulled”. Although you may or may not actually “peel”, it is likely that you will experience a light “exfoliation”.

It may take 2 or more treatments to target the deepest layers of skin to loosen and “peel”.

In order to obtain maximum results and avoid complication, please follow the post-peel instructions listed below for AT LEAST 5-7 days.

DO NOT apply ice or ice water on the treated area

DO NOT use hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, and/or excessively hot showers for 2 days post peel

Likely: Skin may feel warm, redness, flushing, tightness, itching, tenderness, stinging, swelling and some pinpoint bleeding. Any redness should subside over 2-36 hours post treatment.

Possible: Scabbing, crusting, redness or blistering or keloid scarring, temporary headache: There is a small risk of side-effects causing the skin to turn very red, blister, swell, peel and later scab and crust and temporary headaches immediately following the treatment. If there is a history or genetic predisposition to keloid scarring, this will raise the likelihood of keloid scars.

Unlikely: Infection or ulceration: In severe cases infection or ulceration may result, although this is not expected to occur due to the sterility of the derma roller/ micro-needling device and the minimally invasive nature of the micro-medical needles.

Bruising: Although this may not be normally expected to occur, the procedure may cause bruising, the eye contour being the area at most risk of bruising. Any such bruising is temporary.
